Jazz em Agosto 2025
Jazz em Agosto is an annual Jazz festival from Portugal. Produced by Gulbenkian Música, this festival aims to give a stage and representation to underrated, bold Jazz artists. Not classic Jazz artists, but bold, out-of-the-box artists, not afraid to create compositions that either shock or put the spectators in awe.
The following visual identity aimed to capture the boldness and spontaneity of the festival through the colors, lines, and forms employed.

To achieve the above mentioned goal, I picked an adaptation of the three primary colours, together with black and white.
These are simple colours, and through their cooperation I aimed to create a visual identity that radiated spontaneity - a characteristic of Jazz, especially Jazz em Agosto.
Just like this visual identity, the type of Jazz witnessed in this event is composed through the individual contribution of various simple musical instruments, which play and dance with each other.

ILLUSTRATIONS: The illustrations created for the festival's new visual identity represent the instruments most associated with Jazz, as well as its musical notes.
LINE: Through the interplay between form and color, the illustrations are a playful reinterpretation of the above-mentioned items.
COLOR: The simple, rough lines represent the instruments in a minimalist, geometric way. The colors, which expand freely and diffusely, play a fundamental role in creating visual rhythm and spontaneity.

PRIMARY TYPOGRAPHY
The typeface central to this project is customised and was designed to coherently follow the line of the illustrations.
The imperfect and organic stroke that makes up the typeface, which is adjacent to the entire project, allows for an irregular and spontaneous shape.

The logos associated with this concept are intended to show dynamism and rhythm through form.
When paired with the illustrations, movement is evident, which contributes to a cohesive and bold visual identity.

This project was developed as part of my education in graphic design and serves as a suggestion for a new visual identity for the next edition of the Jazz em Agosto festival.
